First of all, I would like to thank you for the honor of being elected to serve as your President for the 2010/11 year. Our club is strong with more than 50 very active members. Placerville Rotary has a 76 year history of serving the community and locations through out the county and the world. We have built most of the parks in the city, improved the welfare of many, provided vocational stimulus to those seeking vocational excellence, and have supported Rotary International’s objectives. I should also add that we have sponsored the charters of at least 5 other Rotary Clubs. This has all been accomplished in the spirit of “Service above Self” while continuously maintaining a purposeful ethical code via the “4 Way Test”.
As we begin the new Rotary year, It is appropriate to reflect on some items that we can accomplish as a club.
Rule number one is “Have Fun”. Engage with members that you do not know as well as others.
· I would like to see every member seek out a qualified potential member and invite them to club meetings.
· I would like to see our club sponsor a Rotary Interact Club atUnionMineHigh School this year.
· I want our community to have an increased awareness of our club involvement due the great projects that we will complete for Placerville .
I want to help people (adults and youth) to succeed in life.
· I would also like to see a generous response to the Polio Plus Pledge Drive and Paul Harris sustaining pledges.
One of the strengths of our club is the ability to raise funds. We need to continue to focus on this activity in order to help support the above agenda. Our club is has a very diverse professional membership which is equally diverse in the specific knowledge that each member has about our traditional Rotary projects. We must continue to share this knowledge with one another.
The Rotary Club of Placerville has a very strong community reputation and we can accomplish anything we choose. As an example, I would like to relate a story about a Rotary rafting trip that I attended several years ago. Our club told the water agencies that the Rotary would be on the AmericanRiver for a rafting trip and that we wanted plenty of water. After we boarded or rafts, the river was flooded to unprecedented levels for that time of year. Yes fellow Rotarians, we can make the rivers rise. We just have to ask. So what is stopping you? Don’t be shy.
